MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2006)
The first Intel-based Apple laptop took over from the PowerBook.
Overview
Announced in January 2006, the MacBook Pro carried the PowerBook look into the Intel era. Inside was a Core Duo processor at 1.67 or 1.83 GHz, an ATI Radeon X1600 graphics chip with 128 MB of memory, and a 15.4-inch display at 1440 by 900 pixels.
It introduced the magnetic MagSafe power connector, an integrated iSight camera and an infrared port for the Apple Remote with Front Row software. FireWire 800 was dropped in favor of FireWire 400, and an ExpressCard slot replaced the old PC Card format.
The design was more than one inch thick and weighed about 5.6 pounds, and it was updated within months to a Core 2 Duo version, but this launch model began the MacBook Pro line.
