MacBook Pro (13-inch, M2, 2022)
The last MacBook Pro in the old body, now with M2.
Overview
Announced at WWDC 2022, this was a modest update. The M2 chip brought an eight-core CPU and a ten-core GPU, with faster unified memory that could reach 24 GB, and a faster media engine for ProRes video.
The case, display, ports and Touch Bar were unchanged from the M1 version. The 13.3-inch display remained at 500 nits and the battery still lasted up to 20 hours of video. Storage began at 256 GB, and SSD speeds on the base model were slower than those of the M1.
Some reviewers saw it as a stopgap, since the Air received a complete redesign and the Pro lineup moved to the 14-inch model for most buyers. It was retired in October 2023.
Why it mattered
The final Touch Bar MacBook Pro, closing a design era that began in 2016.
