MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)
Touch Bar Pro with M1 and a battery that lasts a long working day.
Overview
Revealed alongside the M1 Air and Mac mini, the 13-inch MacBook Pro kept its old body and Touch Bar but gained the Apple M1 chip with a fan to sustain heavy loads. Its CPU is the same eight-core design as the Air, with an eight-core GPU in every configuration.
Battery life reached 20 hours of video playback, the longest of any Mac at the time. The display reached 500 nits of brightness with the P3 wide color gamut, and the studio-quality microphones improved over earlier models.
It has two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports and Wi-Fi 6. Many reviewers considered the Air the better value, but the Pro found a market with users who needed steadier performance for video editing and development.
Why it mattered
Showed that Apple silicon beat the Intel Pro it replaced while using far less power.
