EFF brings its Privacy Badger anti-tracking extension to Safari on Mac

SoftwareOct 20, 2026 at 3:14 AM

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has brought its Privacy Badger anti-tracking extension to Safari on the Mac, extending a tool that until now was limited to Chrome, Edge and Firefox. MacRumors reported the launch on October 19, citing an EFF press release.

Privacy Badger is free. On Safari it requires version 26.5 or later and runs on macOS.

The EFF describes Privacy Badger as a tool that blocks ad trackers following people from site to site. Rather than relying only on a fixed list, the group says the extension uses algorithmic methods to learn which hidden trackers are at work. It does not block ads as such unless those ads also track users, according to the EFF.

Unconfirmed rumor. The details below come from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, as relayed by MacRumors, and Apple has said nothing about them.

Gurman reports that Apple plans a two-day showcase in Los Angeles for content creators on October 27 and 28. It is not expected to be a traditional livestreamed Apple Event, but a set of hands-on "experiences" similar to the October 13 launches.

Four products are said to be on the list. The first is a 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with OLED touchscreens, M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, a Dynamic Island, a lighter body and possibly a cellular modem. The second is a 24-inch iMac with an M6 chip and new colors. The third is a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6.
