Lining up for iPhone Duo on October 23? Apple hasn't promised walk-in stock

NewsOct 17, 2026 at 1:14 PM

Apple has confirmed that the iPhone Duo will be on sale in its stores when it launches on Friday, October 23. What it has not said is how many units each store will actually have, and a new warning from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests customers who line up without an order may go home empty-handed.

According to a report from The Apple Post, Apple has told customers they can shop for the foldable in stores, but it has not promised that every location will offer the phone for walk-in purchase. The company has also not published per-store inventory figures or said whether buyers without a reservation will be served at every store.

Apple's first foldable is already a scalping target. Within hours of pre-orders opening and delivery estimates sliding into 2027, iPhone Duo orders began changing hands on eBay at prices far above Apple's list prices, MacRumors reports.

According to MacRumors, Max Tech's Vadim Yuryev spotted the listings. One sold listing was a 2TB iPhone Duo in Night Sky, a configuration Apple sells for $3,199. It reportedly fetched about $5,000, a premium of roughly $1,800. A second listing, described by the seller as a "confirmed pre-order" for a 1TB Night Sky model, sold for $4,400. Apple's price for that configuration is $2,599.

Apple's new HomeView smart hub and the redesigned Apple TV 4K are already running into supply limits, with delivery estimates on Apple's online store now stretching well past the November 13 launch date, according to MacRumors and 9to5Mac.

Apple opened pre-orders for the products earlier this week and set November 13 as the on-sale date for both. MacRumors reports that the earliest pre-orders are still slated to arrive that day, but estimates for later orders of the tabletop HomeView have moved into early December for select colors. As an example, a silver tabletop unit showed delivery between November 23 and December 1 for a New York address and between November 30 and December 7 for some other U.S. locations.

Verizon will charge $10 a month for iPhone Handoff, twice T-Mobile's price

NewsOct 17, 2026 at 7:14 AM

Verizon has put a price on iPhone Handoff, the iOS 27 feature that lets one phone number be shared across two iPhones. In an announcement tied to the iPhone Duo, the carrier said the feature will be available for $10 per month on compatible iPhone models running iOS 27. That is double what T-Mobile charges, according to reporting from 9to5Mac and MacRumors.

Apple introduced the feature with iOS 27 and detailed it at its September event. It allows a single number to live on two iPhones, with the user switching which device is active. Only one iPhone can use the number at a time. Verizon says customers will be able to change the active device whenever they like while keeping full 5G access.

NewsOct 16, 2026 at 7:13 PM

Apple has tightened the App Store Review Guidelines to address AI-generated nonconsensual intimate imagery and apps that change behavior after they pass review. The company announced the update on its developer news page on October 16.

Guideline 1.2, which covers user-generated content, now explicitly names nonconsensual intimate imagery, including imagery produced with AI tools. According to Apple, apps must proactively prevent and remove this kind of content. Developers who fail to put adequate safeguards in place, or who do not fix violations after being notified, risk breaking the Developer Code of Conduct and being removed from the App Store.

Ternus tells TIME early foldables felt 'cheap and crappy' as iPhone Duo pre-orders open

Apple CEO John Ternus has used a new interview with TIME to explain why Apple took so long to enter the foldable market, describing some early rival foldables as feeling "kind of cheap and crappy," according to MacRumors and 9to5Mac, which summarized the piece.

Ternus is on the cover of TIME's Best Inventions of 2026 issue, which MacRumors says is due October 26. The interview centers on the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable, which opens for pre-orders today, October 16, ahead of its October 23 on-sale date.

According to 9to5Mac's reading of the interview, Ternus was involved in Apple's foldable research as far back as 2011, when he and five other engineers filed a patent application covering the batteries and circuit boards such a device might need…

Apple opens iPhone Duo 'get ready' step ahead of October 16 pre-orders

NewsOct 15, 2026 at 3:14 PM

Apple has opened a "get ready" step for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, letting buyers prepare their order before pre-orders go live on Friday, October 16. According to a MacRumors report published on October 15, customers have until 9 p.m. Pacific time on Thursday to complete the step in the Apple Store app or on Apple's online store.

Apple says completing the preparation lets shoppers check out with a single click once ordering begins. In practice, that means choosing a configuration and confirming details such as payment and delivery in advance, so the final purchase takes a tap rather than a full checkout. Apple has used similar preparation tools ahead of other high-demand launches, where stock and delivery slots can move quickly.
