MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
The last Intel MacBook Air brought the Magic Keyboard to the entry level.
Overview
Released in March 2020, this MacBook Air replaced the butterfly keyboard with a Magic Keyboard, bringing the key travel and reliability back in a thin body. It started at 999 dollars, 100 dollars below the earlier model, and base storage doubled to 256 GB.
Processors were 10th-generation Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 chips with Iris Plus graphics, and Wi-Fi 6 appeared for the first time on an Air. The Retina display kept the 2560 by 1600 resolution with True Tone, and the machine had two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Only eight months later it was replaced by the M1 MacBook Air, making it a brief stop on the way to Apple silicon.
Why it mattered
The last Intel-based MacBook Air, notable for finally fixing the keyboard on the entry-level laptop.
