MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)
A Retina screen and Touch ID finally reached the Air.
Overview
Eight years after the Air changed the notebook line, a thorough rethink arrived in October 2018. The wedge was thinner and lighter at 2.75 pounds, and the 13.3-inch Retina display offered four times the pixels of the old panel with slim borders.
It introduced Touch ID to the Air, along with the T2 security chip and the third-generation butterfly keyboard. A Force Touch trackpad larger than its predecessors, stereo speakers with more bass and two Thunderbolt 3 ports completed the update, and the case used recycled aluminum.
A 1.6 GHz dual-core Core i5, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage came in the base model, with a 2019 refresh adding True Tone and a lower price.
Why it mattered
Gave the Air its Retina display and Touch ID, closing the gap with the MacBook Pro.
