iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation)
An M1 Mac chip arrives in the iPad Pro.
Overview
The third-generation 11-inch iPad Pro was notable for what sat inside: the M1, the same chip Apple had introduced on the Mac only months before. Its eight-core CPU and eight-core GPU delivered a substantial jump in speed, and memory rose to 8 GB or 16 GB depending on the storage tier.
The USB-C port gained Thunderbolt and USB 4 support, allowing faster storage, external displays up to 6K and more demanding accessories. Cellular models picked up 5G, and Wi-Fi 6 improved wireless speeds.
The front camera got a 12-megapixel ultra wide sensor with Center Stage, which kept the user framed during video calls by panning and zooming digitally. The display stayed at 11 inches with ProMotion, while the larger 12.9-inch sibling received a new mini-LED screen.
Why it mattered
Marked the move of iPad Pro to Mac-class silicon, narrowing the hardware gap between tablet and laptop.
