Biography

Eduardo Cue grew up in Miami and graduated from Duke University with degrees in computer science and economics. He joined Apple in 1989 and worked in software engineering and customer support before moving to internet services as the web grew in the late 1990s.

Cue ran the creation of Apple's online store in 1997 and then led the internet software and services group. Under his direction, Apple launched the iTunes Store in 2003 and the App Store in 2008. After the troubled MobileMe, his team replaced it with iCloud. In later years his remit covered Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Pay and Maps, and Apple acquired the music recognition service Shazam under his leadership.

As senior vice president of services he is among the longest-serving members of Apple's leadership and takes part in negotiations with record labels, studios and sports leagues. He is a member of the executive team under CEO John Ternus. His group oversees a business that has expanded Apple's revenue well beyond hardware sales.

Cue has often said that Apple's services should be as good as its devices, and his business unit has grown into one of Apple's biggest sources of revenue. Together with Phil Schiller, he is among the executives who testified in legal proceedings about the App Store and Apple's relations with partners, and he is one of the few current executives who worked directly with Steve Jobs on the early online store.
