Apple's new OLED MacBook Pro is lighter and slimmer than the mini-LED models it replaces, according to a size and weight comparison published by MacRumors based on Apple's published specifications.

Lighter by about half a pound

The 14-inch model with a Pro chip is listed at 3 pounds, down from 3.5 pounds for the previous mini-LED version, while the Max configuration is 3.1 pounds, down from 3.6. The 16-inch model drops from 4.6 pounds (Pro) and 4.7 pounds (Max) to 4 pounds and 4.1 pounds respectively. MacRumors notes that OLED panels do not need a backlight, which helps explain the weight saving.

Slimmer and a little smaller

Height falls from 0.61 inches to 0.59 inches on the 14-inch model and from 0.66 inches to 0.63 inches on the 16-inch. The footprint also shrinks slightly. The 14-inch machine measures 12.24 inches wide by 8.52 inches deep, compared with 12.31 by 8.71 before. The 16-inch model is 14 inches wide by 9.62 inches deep, against 14.01 by 9.77 for its predecessor.

Bigger screen on the 16-inch

The 14-inch display stays at 14.2 inches, but the 16-inch panel grows from 16.2 to 16.3 inches. MacRumors attributes the increase to slimmer bezels, which let the larger screen fit in a smaller body.

Pricing context

The comparison arrives alongside Apple's pricing for the new line. The 14-inch OLED model starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399, which MacRumors says is $400 above comparable mini-LED configurations. Apple's touchscreen MacBook Pro is the first Mac with a touch display, and the new models are available to pre-order now.

The figures come from Apple's own spec listings as compiled by MacRumors; independent measurements have not yet been published, and real-world weight can vary slightly by configuration.
