Mac Studio (2023)
M2 Max and M2 Ultra bring faster graphics and Wi-Fi 6E.
Overview
A year after the original, the Mac Studio received the second generation of Apple silicon. The M2 Max had a 12-core CPU and a 30 or 38-core GPU, while the M2 Ultra doubled that to a 24-core CPU and a 60 or 76-core GPU.
Memory increased to 96 GB on the Max and 192 GB on the Ultra. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 were added, HDMI moved to version 2.1, and the machine could drive up to six Pro Display XDR screens. It retained the front USB-C and SD slot, rear Thunderbolt 4 ports and 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
It launched on the same day as the Apple silicon Mac Pro and was positioned beside it as the more compact option.
Why it mattered
It confirmed the Mac Studio as the mainstream route to pro-level Apple silicon power.
