Mac Studio (2026)
M5 Max and the first M5 Ultra, with PCIe Gen 6 storage.
Overview
The fourth Mac Studio kept the compact case but upgraded the core. The M5 Max has an 18-core CPU with six super cores and twelve performance cores, with up to a 40-core GPU and up to 128 GB of memory at up to 614 GB/s. The M5 Ultra reaches 36 CPU cores, 80 GPU cores, and up to 512 GB of memory at 1.2 TB/s, with the 512 GB option arriving in late October.
Every GPU core includes a Neural Accelerator, which made the M5 Ultra the first Ultra chip with that feature; Apple claims 4.3 times the peak AI compute of the M3 Ultra. Storage uses a PCIe Gen 6 architecture and is twice as fast as before. Up to six Thunderbolt 5 ports, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and USB-C genlock are included, and units can be clustered over Thunderbolt for distributed AI work.
Prices rose, to $2,499 for the M5 Max and $5,499 for the M5 Ultra.
Why it mattered
With the Mac Pro discontinued, it became Apple's highest-end desktop and its flagship for local AI workloads.
