iPhone 17 Pro
An aluminum unibody, a vapor chamber and a camera plateau.
Overview
The 17 Pro looked different from behind. A wide, raised plateau across the full width of the back holds the camera system, and the frame is a single piece of aluminum rather than titanium, which Apple chose for heat dissipation and rigidity. A vapor chamber with deionized water sits inside the body to move heat away from the A19 Pro chip during sustained work.
All three rear cameras shoot at 48 megapixels. The telephoto lens has a 4x tetraprism design, and cropping the sensor yields an 8x optical-quality zoom, creating a 16x optical-quality range from 0.5x to 8x. The front camera is an 18-megapixel Center Stage sensor, and video capture supports ProRes RAW and Apple Log 2.
The 6.3-inch display reaches 3,000 nits outdoors and uses an anti-reflective coating on Ceramic Shield 2. Pricing started at $1,099 with 256GB of storage, and the phone was replaced by the iPhone 18 Pro in September 2026.
Why it mattered
It reset the Pro design with an aluminum body and the plateau, the look carried into the iPhone 18 Pro.
