Apple Music appears to be adding a karaoke-style video feature called Selfie Sing, according to MacRumors, which spotted it ahead of any formal announcement from Apple.
The feature lets listeners film themselves singing along to a track while the lyrics scroll across the screen. MacRumors reports that you pick a song, tap a camera icon and press the red record button, and the front-facing camera captures the performance as the words move along with the music.
Effects and sharing
Once a clip is recorded, users can change the volume of their vocals and apply one of four audio effects: Megaphone, Echo, Concert Hall or Studio. The finished video can then be saved to the Photos library or shared with other people. MacRumors says Animoji is not supported in this mode.
Apple's own in-app description, as quoted by MacRumors, says users can "record a Selfie Sing, add mic effects to your voice, then save or share your video selfie with anyone you like."
A dedicated playlist
A Selfie Sing playlist has also appeared in Apple Music. MacRumors lists six tracks in it: "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper, "Like a Virgin" by Madonna, "Wonderwall" by Oasis, "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran and "...Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears. Not every song in the catalog supports the feature at the moment, and MacRumors suggests wider coverage could follow later.
Software requirements
According to the report, the playlist is visible on devices running iOS 27.2, but the front-camera recording option only works on the iOS 27.3 beta, which Apple seeded to developers this week. Apple advises people to update to the latest version of iOS before trying it.
The report describes Selfie Sing as an extension of Apple Music Sing, the karaoke mode that arrived with iOS 16.2 and let users lower the original vocals and follow along with time-synced lyrics. MacRumors credits developer Aaron Perris with sharing an early look at the feature on X.
Apple has not publicly announced Selfie Sing, so details such as the final launch timing, supported countries and the full list of compatible songs remain unconfirmed. Because the feature is tied to a beta release, it could still change before it reaches the public version of iOS 27.3.
