iPhone 17
ProMotion arrives on the standard iPhone, with 256GB at $799.
Overview
The iPhone 17 was a significant upgrade for the base model. Its screen grew to 6.3 inches and gained ProMotion at up to 120 Hz with an always-on mode, plus a scratch-resistant Ceramic Shield 2 coating that Apple said was three times tougher than before and an anti-reflective layer.
Both rear cameras are 48 megapixels: the Fusion main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra wide. The front camera was redesigned as an 18-megapixel Center Stage sensor with a square format that lets the phone rotate the framing without turning the device, and it supports Dual Capture for recording with the front and back lenses at once.
The A19 chip and the Apple N1 wireless chip added Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Battery life reached up to 30 hours of video playback, and the entry storage jumped to 256GB while the price stayed at $799.
Why it mattered
It brought 120 Hz to the base iPhone and made 256GB the starting point, narrowing the gap to the Pro.
