TrendForce expects Apple to ship between 1.2 million and 1.5 million of its new OLED MacBook Pro in 2027, according to a report summarized by 9to5Mac. The forecast comes just days after Apple introduced the first touchscreen Mac, a MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED display that Apple calls PROLED XDR.

The market research firm sees Apple's move as a significant moment for the broader laptop industry. TrendForce projects that global OLED notebook shipments will grow by nearly 40 percent in 2026 and by more than 40 percent again in 2027, reaching 46.6 million units by 2030. Annual growth is expected to peak at 42.8 percent in 2028 before easing to 30.8 percent. In its words, Apple's arrival "is expected to give the market additional momentum" and could encourage wider adoption of OLED panels in notebooks.

TrendForce had previously said OLED laptops could reach up to a 12 percent share of the notebook market in 2027 and 2028, partly because of Apple's expected adoption. That 12 percent figure refers to the overall notebook market, not to the MacBook Pro line specifically.

The firm also flags a possible brake on near-term demand. The 14-inch model carries a premium starting price of $2,899, and it is sold alongside the existing mini-LED MacBook Pro models. TrendForce says that combination could temper replacement demand in the short run.

The report also touches on the display supply chain. 9to5Mac notes that the panels use the same tandem OLED approach Apple introduced with the 2024 iPad Pro. An earlier report from The Elec said Samsung Display planned to begin mass production of 14- and 16-inch OLED panels in the second quarter of 2026, with annual capacity estimated at two to three million units. TrendForce's roadmap also places the first OLED MacBook Air in 2029, pushed back from an earlier 2027 estimate, with LG Display, BOE and TCL CSOT said to be competing for that business.

These are analyst projections rather than Apple figures. Apple has not disclosed how many of the new MacBook Pro models it expects to sell, and shipment forecasts from research firms often change as real demand becomes clear. The new MacBook Pro models are available to pre-order, with deliveries starting November 6.
