Instagram has arrived on the Apple TV, according to a MacRumors report, giving Meta's photo and video service a place in the living room on Apple's set-top box for the first time.
The app is listed on the tvOS App Store and requires tvOS 26.0 or later. MacRumors notes that Apple's release metadata dates version 66.0 to October 23, 2026, while an archived App Store listing from October 19 still showed compatibility only with iPhone and iPad, suggesting the Apple TV version went live in the past few days.
What the app offers
The listing describes Reels, longer videos and live shows, all in one place. Viewers can watch content from creators they follow, browse new videos and pick up where they left off across devices. Instagram pitches the experience as a way to watch together with friends and family.
A late arrival on Apple's box
Apple TV is far from the first television platform Instagram has targeted. MacRumors recounts that the company began testing a TV app on Amazon Fire TV in the United States in December 2025, widened it to Google TV in February 2026 and brought it to Samsung smart TVs in June 2026. The early TV experience centred on Reels sorted into interest-based channels that play automatically.
In June, Meta said it planned to add longer creator videos, episodic series and live broadcasts to the TV app. The Apple TV description lists those formats next to Reels, which indicates the richer lineup is part of this release. The launch also follows Instagram's long-awaited dedicated iPad app, which arrived in September 2025.
Why it matters
For Apple's streaming box, which is mostly associated with subscription video services, the addition brings a major social network onto the platform and adds to a growing set of apps built around short-form video. Whether viewers will want to browse Reels on a big screen is another question: reaction in MacRumors' comment section was largely sceptical, with some readers saying they had no plans to install it.
The report did not include details on any Apple TV-specific features beyond those in the App Store description, and neither Apple nor Meta has published a separate announcement that we have seen. The app appears to be a free download, though pricing was not spelled out in the material reviewed.
