Apple has put updated versions of its Mac power accessories on sale in its online store, built around a redesigned plug connector the company calls AC Connector 2. According to MacRumors, which spotted the listings on October 28, the refresh covers the 70W and 140W Power Adapters, the Power Adapter Extension Cable and the World Travel Adapter Kit.

What changed

Apple's support documentation describes AC Connector 2 as a pill-shaped design that replaces the older notched shape, now called AC Connector 1. Apple says the change is down to updated regulations, and that new extension cables and power adapters use the new connector.

The practical catch is compatibility. Apple's support page says extension cables and the detachable plug heads, known as duckheads, are not interchangeable between the two connector types, so an accessory has to match the connector on your power adapter.

Travel kit returns

The World Travel Adapter Kit is back at $39 in the U.S., according to MacRumors, after it disappeared from Apple's online store in 2025. The kit contains five interchangeable plugs: Type A for North America and Japan, Type C for continental Europe and Brazil, Type D for India, Type G for the UK, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Singapore, and Type I for Australia and New Zealand. Each international plug now uses AC Connector 2.

MacRumors reports that Apple began rolling out AC Connector 2 in some countries earlier in 2026, and that some customers ran into problems pairing the new adapters with older extension cables and the previous travel kit. The updated cable and kit appear to be Apple's answer to those complaints, though Apple has not said so itself in the support document.

What is not yet clear

Apple's support page does not list which products or regions ship with AC Connector 2, and it does not mention the travel kit by name. MacRumors' report also did not cover pricing for the 70W adapter, the 140W adapter or the extension cable, or whether the adapters changed in size or color.

The new accessories arrive the same day Apple began selling its touchscreen MacBook Pro, which is a likely home for the 140W adapter. Apple has not said whether the new models include the AC Connector 2 version in the box. Owners who travel or use an extension cable should check which connector type their current adapter has before buying a replacement.
