Overview
The 8 Plus kept the home-button body of the 7 Plus and added a glass back for wireless charging.
Its dual 12-megapixel camera system, with a wide lens and a 2x telephoto lens, was recalibrated with a new sensor and image signal processor. Portrait Lighting, released as a beta, applied studio-style lighting effects such as Contour Light and Stage Light to portraits. Video capture at 4K up to 60 fps and 1080p slow motion at 240 fps were available.
The A11 Bionic chip and 3GB of RAM kept the phone fast and well suited to the new ARKit augmented reality apps. Like its smaller sibling, it supported fast charging and was rated IP67 for water and dust resistance.
Why it mattered
It remains the final large iPhone built around a physical home button.
