Apple's first foldable is already a scalping target. Within hours of pre-orders opening and delivery estimates sliding into 2027, iPhone Duo orders began changing hands on eBay at prices far above Apple's list prices, MacRumors reports.
What sold
According to MacRumors, Max Tech's Vadim Yuryev spotted the listings. One sold listing was a 2TB iPhone Duo in Night Sky, a configuration Apple sells for $3,199. It reportedly fetched about $5,000, a premium of roughly $1,800. A second listing, described by the seller as a "confirmed pre-order" for a 1TB Night Sky model, sold for $4,400. Apple's price for that configuration is $2,599.
The resale activity followed a rapid change on Apple's own store. At the time MacRumors published, Apple's U.S. online store showed a January 25 shipping estimate for every iPhone Duo configuration, a sharp slide from the launch-week dates customers saw when ordering opened.
Why it matters
The listings show how tight supply looks to buyers. Apple has said the first iPhone Duo units are due to arrive on October 23, and we previously reported that shipping estimates slipped to late January within minutes of pre-orders going live. Anyone who secured an early slot now holds something others are willing to pay a large premium for, at least for now.
A caution for buyers
Pre-orders are tied to an Apple order and an account, and the listings described here were for pre-order slots as well as devices. Buyers who pay a reseller for a place in line are relying entirely on the seller, and we have not seen Apple comment on resale of pre-orders. Prices on a couple of sold listings also do not establish a market rate: they are two data points, and what the iPhone Duo fetches on the secondhand market once units are in customers' hands may look very different.
For buyers who simply want the device at list price, Apple's store remains the place to order, and the January estimate is the date to plan around for new orders. We will update this story if Apple addresses the demand or changes its delivery estimates.
