Apple has published the final version of iOS 27.1, but only for one device: the iPhone Duo, which went on sale on October 23. MacRumors reports that the release is not available to any other iPhone.
According to the report, the foldable ships with iOS 27.1 preinstalled. During setup, buyers are expected to install a newer iOS 27.1 build, which has been available as an IPSW restore file since Thursday, October 22. The filename points to build number 24A94425.
Apple's release notes for the update are brief. They mention only "bug fixes" for the iPhone and list no security content, so there is no public detail about what changed beyond that.
Every other compatible iPhone has moved on to the iOS 27.2 cycle. Apple has seeded a release candidate of iOS 27.2 that also supports the iPhone Duo, which means the new foldable can join the rest of the lineup on that version once it ships. MacRumors expects iOS 27.2 to arrive next week.
Why a Duo-only release?
Apple has not explained why iOS 27.1 never reached other models. MacRumors suggests the likeliest reason is secrecy: keeping the build exclusive to the Duo would have prevented software features specific to the foldable from leaking before launch. That is the outlet's interpretation, not something Apple has said.
What it means for buyers
For people picking up an iPhone Duo, the practical effect is a short setup step. Because the phone ships with an earlier build of iOS 27.1, an update may be requested during first-run setup, and a further move to iOS 27.2 should follow within days if the timing holds.
Owners of other iPhones do not need to do anything. Their devices continue on the iOS 27.2 path, which recent release candidates have said adds more Siri AI languages and other changes, according to earlier coverage.
The arrangement is unusual: a numbered iOS release that exists for a single model and is almost immediately superseded. It reflects how closely Apple has tied the launch of its first foldable to its own software schedule, with the device debuting on the same day its custom release lands.
Apple's iOS 27.2 is the update to watch next, as it brings the Duo in line with the rest of the iPhone range.
