Apple is adding a strength-training option to Fitness+ called Gym Strength, a feature that builds a personalized four-week lifting plan and adjusts it as users log their results. According to MacRumors and 9to5Mac, it arrives with the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3 updates, which are currently in beta.
How the plans work
Gym Strength starts from a user's strength goals, experience level, weekly schedule and the equipment they have available. Users choose which days they want to work out and which areas of the body to focus on. Each week's plan then adapts to the reps and weights logged the week before, so the program progresses over its four weeks.
According to 9to5Mac, workouts come in two lengths: five exercises, running about 20 to 30 minutes, or seven exercises, running about 45 to 60 minutes. Every session suggests specific exercises along with the number of reps and sets and a recommended weight.
Exercise library and demonstrations
Apple says the library covers more than 350 exercises across over 30 types of equipment, including dumbbells, kettlebells, suspension trainers, cable machines and barbells, with dumbbells the minimum needed. Users can swap equipment, pick a similar alternative exercise, add sets or skip an exercise. Each movement has a short video demonstration from Fitness+ trainers, which can be expanded to show three angles.
Apple Watch and Apple Intelligence
Plans are built and followed on an iPhone running iOS 27.3 or an iPad running iPadOS 27.3. An Apple Watch running watchOS 27.3 is optional: it lets people view exercises and log reps and weight from the wrist while tracking heart rate and calories.
An optional feature called Training Note uses Apple Intelligence to preview each workout, explain how the plan is progressing and call out milestones. It requires an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone or iPad set to English.
Availability
Gym Strength is included with an existing Fitness+ subscription. In the United States, Fitness+ costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year, and is also part of Apple One Premier. Neither report gives a public release date for the feature, and because the iOS 27.3 family is still in beta, the final launch will depend on when Apple ships those updates. Regional availability was not specified.
The addition extends Fitness+ beyond its video-led classes into structured gym training, an area where many fitness apps already offer progressive programs.
