Macintosh Classic II
A 68030 Classic: faster, but still a black-and-white compact.
Overview
The Classic II kept the shape of its predecessor but gained a 68030 processor running at 16 MHz, though a 16-bit data bus limited the real-world speedup. It came with 2 MB of memory, expandable to 10 MB, and a 40 or 80 MB hard disk.
An internal connector allowed a 68882 math coprocessor to be added. Unlike the SE/30 it had no Processor Direct Slot, so expansion was limited.
In 1992 it was sold in cheaper versions under the Performa 200 name. It marked the end of the monochrome compact line, which gave way to the Color Classic.
Why it mattered
It closed the book on the black-and-white compact Mac and the era of the external floppy port.
