Three iPad updates are said to be on Apple's calendar for the first half of 2027, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. MacRumors summarized the claims from his Sunday Power On newsletter. None of this has been confirmed by Apple.
What Gurman reports
The next iPad Air is expected to move to an OLED display, a change that would bring the mid-range tablet closer to the panel technology Apple already uses in the high-end iPad Pro. For the iPad Pro, Gurman expects a vapor chamber cooling system, which is designed to spread heat more effectively and could help the tablet hold higher performance for longer under sustained load.
The third model is the entry-level iPad, expected to be the 12th generation. Gurman's report, as relayed by MacRumors, gives only the first-half-2027 window; it does not name a month or an event.
What is inference, not reporting
MacRumors notes that the chip choices for the Air and Pro are its own presumption rather than something Gurman stated. The outlet assumes the iPad Air would use an M5 chip and the iPad Pro an M6. Those details should be treated as educated guesses until a more specific report or an Apple announcement says otherwise.
For the entry-level iPad, MacRumors points back to a September 25 leak rather than to the new newsletter. That earlier claim described an A19 chip with Apple Intelligence support, an N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7, and Apple's C1X modem in cellular models. Those specifications also remain unconfirmed.
Context
The rumor arrives days after Apple announced an iPad mini with an OLED display, which is due to go on sale on November 6. That launch makes an OLED iPad Air a natural next step in the lineup, though Apple has not said anything about future iPad plans.
As with any single-source rumor, the timing and features could change before launch. Cupertino News will update coverage if Apple or other reliable reporters add detail.
