iOS 27.2 brings two changes to FaceTime: a camera feature that now works in group calls, and support for outside sign language and captioning services. 9to5Mac detailed both after trying the update.
Dual Capture on group calls
Dual Capture shows the view from your front and rear cameras at the same time. Until now it was limited to one-on-one calls. According to 9to5Mac, it now also works on group FaceTime calls. On an iPhone 17 or newer, tapping the Flip button turns on both cameras by default, so the other participants see you and your surroundings together.
There is a catch. Everyone on the call needs to be running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27, so a participant on an older system can hold the feature back.
Third-party accessibility services
The second change targets accessibility. FaceTime now supports sign language interpreters through third-party Video Relay Service apps. 9to5Mac says a Sign Language button appears under the three-dot menu in a call. It lets you choose an installed VRS app to connect with an interpreter. While the interpreter is joining, the app shows up as a participant tile marked "Waiting for Interpreter". Once the interpreter connects, the tile displays their name.
FaceTime also now works with third-party live captioning services. Apple has published a support document with setup steps for that. The built-in Live Captions feature is still available and can be switched on under Settings, Apps, FaceTime, Live Captions.
Why it matters
Both features widen who can use FaceTime and how. Dual Capture on group calls suits the kind of calls where you want to show relatives a place or an event as it happens. The VRS and captioning support lets people who rely on interpreters or captioning keep using the services they already use, without leaving the FaceTime call.
iOS 27.2 is the current release, and Apple has said an iOS 27.3 beta is due soon. The FaceTime changes in this report are part of iOS 27.2, which is already out.
The details here come from 9to5Mac's hands-on report and Apple's linked support documentation. Apple has not issued a separate announcement for the FaceTime changes.
