Rumor. This story is based on unconfirmed reports. Details may change before anything is announced.

Apple is weighing a version of the iPhone Duo with a somewhat larger inner display, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The report comes from his latest Power On podcast episode and was relayed by MacRumors on October 22.

What Gurman said

Gurman said he has "heard" that Apple is "looking at" a future iPhone Duo whose inner screen is roughly half an inch bigger than the one on the current model. The phrasing matters: this is secondhand information about an idea under consideration, not a confirmed product plan, and Apple has not commented.

The current iPhone Duo pairs a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.4-inch outer display. Gurman said he does not know the exact size of a larger panel, but suggested it could land somewhere between 7.9 and 8.1 inches.

Not a separate model

According to Gurman, the idea would not result in a distinct, bigger variant sold alongside the current phone. In other words, there would be no "iPhone Duo Max." Instead, a larger inner display would apply to a future version of the device itself, which fits a pattern of Apple refining a new product's dimensions from one generation to the next.

Timing and caveats

Neither Gurman nor MacRumors gave a timeline for a larger-screen iPhone Duo, and the report refers only to a "future" model. Nothing in it indicates whether the change would arrive with the next generation or later. The 7.9-to-8.1-inch range is Gurman's own estimate rather than a figure from a supply-chain document or an Apple filing, and the report cites no additional sources.

Context

The iPhone Duo began reaching customers this week, and early reviews have focused on its hinge, battery, cameras and the absence of Face ID. Separately, Gurman has reported that Apple is testing iPhone Duo 2 prototypes with under-display Face ID. A bigger inner display would be a different strand of that evolving roadmap, and for now it remains an early rumor.

As with any report built on what a single journalist has heard, details may shift, and Apple often evaluates several designs that never ship. Cupertino News will follow up if further reporting or official information emerges.
