Apple has seeded the release candidate of macOS Golden Gate 27.2 to developers, along with release candidates for watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2, according to MacRumors. The builds arrived on Monday, October 19, one week after the fourth betas.

What the release candidate means

A release candidate is the build Apple intends to ship to the public unless testers uncover a late problem. Moving from a fourth beta to an RC in a single week suggests the 27.2 cycle is close to finished. MacRumors expects macOS Golden Gate 27.2 to reach the public toward the end of October, though Apple has not announced a release date.

Registered developers can install the Mac update through System Settings, under General and then Software Update, after opting into the macOS Golden Gate betas.

What is inside

Per MacRumors, the most visible addition on the Mac is wider Siri AI language support, matching the expansion that Apple's iOS 27.2 release candidate also carries. The update also brings new brightness and volume sliders, which MacRumors describes in a separate article.

For watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2, the report does not list any new features. The tvOS 27.2 release candidate arrived at the same time, and MacRumors says it may bring new Siri features to Apple TV, but it labels that as speculation. Build numbers were not included in the report.

How it fits with the rest of the cycle

The release candidates round out a full set of 27.2 builds. Apple has also released HomePod and tvOS 27.2 candidates, which point to a Sound Glow feature for existing HomePods and groundwork for surround sound. The iOS 27.2 candidate, meanwhile, leaves out the redesigned Health app that Apple pulled from beta 4 and said would arrive in a future update.

The timing also lines up with Apple's coming hardware activity. The company has invited media to a Los Angeles event on October 28 under a "Pro and tell" teaser, and the HomePod mini 2 is due on October 30. Apple has not said which software versions the new hardware will ship with, so the link between the software and the launches is unconfirmed.

Anyone who is not enrolled in the developer program should not need to do anything yet. Public builds normally follow after Apple clears the release candidate, and the company typically announces them through its software update pages rather than a press release.
