Apple has released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, the first major point updates to this year's operating systems, according to MacRumors. The update is available for every iPhone and iPad that supports version 27, including the new iPhone Duo and the OLED iPad mini announced earlier today. Apple also shipped iOS 26.7.2 with security updates for devices still on the previous release.
Siri AI gets broader
The headline change is an expanded Siri AI. Per the release notes MacRumors quotes, Siri can now recall earlier conversations, so users can ask follow-up questions about something it said previously. It also draws on more personal sources, including photos in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and Safari history and the Reading List.
A new Excluded Apps setting lets people choose which apps Siri, Search and Suggestions can access, and users can select just part of a Siri response to copy. Five languages join Siri AI: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Siri AI requires an iPhone 16 or later, an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and it remains unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.
Other additions
Messages gains Suggestions that offer quick actions based on the conversation, such as adding a dinner invitation to Calendar. Shared Albums in Photos now support editable captions and comments, prevent duplicate photos and send expiration reminders. Photos and Image Playground add support for the SynthID watermark.
The Podcasts Home tab separates New Episodes from Continue Playing, while the Games app's Friends tab shows why a friend is suggested and which games they played recently. The Apple TV app adds Simple Profiles for household members, Apple Music receives a new icon and branding, and FaceTime can now work with a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner. In the EU, Apple adds an alternative, expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt.
iPhone Duo extras
On the iPhone Duo, the update adds Apple Pencil support and an Edge Light option for video calls, and Siri AI keeps context from earlier interactions.
