Former At Apple: 2013-2025Biography
Luca Maestri was born in Rome and graduated from Luiss University with a degree in economics in 1987, then earned a master's degree in management at Boston University in 1991. He built a career at General Motors and other multinational companies in Europe and the United States before joining Apple in 2013 as vice president of finance and corporate controller.
In 2014 he succeeded Peter Oppenheimer as chief financial officer. In that role he led the company's financial reporting and capital allocation, including large share buyback and dividend programs. During his tenure Apple's market capitalization rose from several hundred billion dollars to more than three trillion, and the annual revenue exceeded 380 billion dollars.
Maestri stepped down as CFO at the end of 2024. Apple's next CFO, Kevan Parekh, took over on January 1, 2025, and Maestri moved to lead Apple's corporate services teams.
Maestri was a fixture on Apple's quarterly earnings calls for ten years, presenting results alongside Tim Cook. He was known for emphasizing the company's goal of reaching a net cash neutral position over time, which shaped Apple's large share repurchase program during his tenure as CFO, and he regularly answered analysts' questions about the company's margins and spending.
