iPad mini (A17 Pro)
The pocketable iPad gets an iPhone-class A17 Pro and Apple Intelligence.
Overview
The iPad mini 7 is a focused upgrade of the 2021 redesign. The body, 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display and USB-C port stayed the same, but the chip jumped to the A17 Pro from the iPhone 15 Pro, with a six-core CPU, five-core GPU and 8 GB of memory, which is what Apple Intelligence requires.
Touch ID remained in the top button, and USB-C now transfers data at up to 10 Gb/s. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 improved wireless, and starting storage doubled to 128 GB at an unchanged $499 price. It also supports Apple Pencil Pro with squeeze and hover gestures.
Apple also revised the panel to cut the jelly-scrolling effect that some people noticed on the sixth-generation model. The mini remained the only iPad to fit in a large pocket, and the A17 Pro made it a capable game console as well, with hardware ray tracing support.
Why it mattered
Added Apple Intelligence and Pencil Pro to Apple's smallest tablet and fixed the display quirk of the previous mini.
